ഇപ്പോഴും ഞാൻ തേടുന്നത് മലകളും കുന്നുകളും  മരങ്ങളും കാടും പുൽമേടുകളും ഒറ്റയടിപ്പാതകളും പുഴകളും നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളും നിറഞ്ഞ  ശാന്തവും വിജനവുമായ തീരങ്ങളും താഴ്‌വാരങ്ങളുമാണ്... ഞാൻ അവിടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അവിടെയായിരുന്നു ഞാൻ... എപ്പോഴോ എനിക്കത് നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടുപോയി... ഇപ്പോഴും അത് തേടി നടക്കുകയാണ്.. എന്റെ കണ്ണിലെ ആ വേപഥു കാണുന്നില്ലേ... എഴുതിയത് -  അയ്യപ്പൻ മണികണ്ഠൻ നായർ (അയൻ)

സംഭവം എൺപത് കാലഘട്ടം. ആറ്റുകാൽ പോകുന്ന വഴിക്ക് മണക്കാട്മുക്കിൽ ഒരു പാർക്ക് ഉണ്ട്. അതിൻ്റെ എതിർ വശത്തായി വലിയ ഒരു വൈക്കോൽ ഡിപ്പോ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അടുത്തായി ഒരു ചാരായ ഷാപ്പും കടകളും എല്ലാം ഉണ്ട്. മിക്കവാറും എല്ലാ ദിവസവും ഒരു വലിയ ലോഡ് വൈക്കോലുമായി ലോറി അവിടെ വരും. വൈക്കോൽ ഡിപ്പോയുടെ അരികിലായി ലോറി നിർത്തിയ ശേഷം, തൊഴിലാളികൾ ലോഡ് ഇറക്കും. അതിന് ശേഷം കയറെല്ലാം ശരിക്ക് കെട്ടി ശരിപ്പെടുത്തി ലോറി തിരികെ പോകും. ഏതാണ്ട് എല്ലാ ദിവസവും സന്ധ്യാ സമയം ആകുമ്പോഴാണ്, തൊഴിലാളികൾ ലോഡ് ഇറക്കുന്നത്. തൊട്ടടുത്തെ ചാരായ ഷാപ്പിൽ വരുന്നവരും, അടുത്തുള്ള ചായക്കടയിൽ വരുന്നവരും അടുത്തുള്ള ചന്തയിൽ പിരിവിനും പലിശക്കും സാധനങ്ങളുടെ തുക വാങ്ങാൻ വരുന്നവരും എല്ലാം കൂടി സാമാന്യം തിരക്കുണ്ടാകും. എങ്കിലും ഇന്നു ഉള്ളതിനെക്കാളും ശാന്തത അന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു... അന്നും പതിവു പോലെ വൈക്കോൽ ലോറിയെത്തി, സന്ധ്യ സമയം. തൊഴിലാളികൾ ലോഡ് ഇറക്കി. എല്ലാം കഴിഞ്ഞ് ലോറിയിലെ കയർ എല്ലാം കെട്ടി ഉറപ്പിച്ചു. വൈക്കോൽ കെട്ട്, കെട്ടി വരുന്ന വലിയ കയർ മുറിക്കാൻ ഒരു വെട്ടു കത്തി ലോറിയിൽ ഉണ്ട്. അത് ആവശ്യം കഴിഞ്ഞ ശേഷം താഴെ നിന്നും ലോറിയുടെ മുകളിലുള്ള വൈക്കോലിലേക്...
